The area
Pembrokeshire is a maritime county bordered by the sea on three sides. The county boasts 170 miles of coastline comprising important seabird breeding sites and numerous beautiful bays and sandy beaches. Almost all of the coast is included in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Major bays include Newport Bay, Fishguard Bay and St Bride's Bay. There are many small islands off the coast of the county to explore, the largest of which are Ramsey Island, Skomer Island and Caldey Island.
Solva
Solva (where two of our properties are located) is a beautiful picturesque village with a small sheltered harbour. It stands deep in a valley gouged out by water melting from glaciers which made it an ideal position as a base for trading ships in the 18th Century. Solva has a variety of small shops selling crafts, clothes etc. and numerous pubs and eating places.
St. Davids
St. Davids (where one of our properties is located) is the smallest city in Britain. The surrounding spectacular coastal scenery is renowned for its beauty and abundance of wildlife. Whitesands Bay, one of the many beautiful beaches in the area, carries the prestigious European Blue Flag Award. Other attractions are the Cathedral which was built in the 12th century and the magnificent ruins of the medieval Bishops Palace which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Also there are a variety of quaint shops, an outdoor activity centre, boat trips to the surrounding islands nature reserves and superb restaurants and cafes.
